How to create a Facebook business page
Before you can register your business page, you need to log in to your personal Facebook account. But don’t worry, your personal account information won’t be publicly visible on your company page.
So, if you’re not already signed in to your personal account, sign in now and then follow the steps to create the page.
Step 1: Sign up
Go to facebook.com/pages/create .
Select the type of page you want to create: company/brand or community / public figure. In this article, we’ll assume you’re creating a Page for a business or brand, so click the Get Started button for that option.
Next, enter your business information. For your Page name, use your business name or the name that people are likely to search for when trying to find your business.
In the category part, write a word or two that describes your business and Facebook will suggest some options. If your business encompasses more than one of the category options that appear, select the one that your customers are most likely to think of when they think of your business. We’ll show you how to add more categories later.
Once you choose your category, the box will expand to ask for some additional details, such as your address and phone number. You can choose whether you want to make this information public or show only your city and state.
When you’re done, click Continue. Keep in mind that doing so indicates that you agree to the Facebook Pages, Groups, and Events Policies, so you’ll want to check them before continuing.
Step 2: Add Photos
Next, upload a profile image and a cover image for your Facebook page. It’s important to create a good first visual impression, so choose wisely. Make sure the photos you select are in line with your brand and are easily identifiable with your business.
The first thing is to upload your profile picture. This image will accompany your business name in search results and every time you interact with users. It will also appear in the top corner of your Facebook page.
If you have a recognizable brand, using your logo is probably in your best interest. If you are a celebrity or a public figure, a photo of your face works perfectly. And if you are a local business, try a professional image where your star product or service is appreciated. The important thing here is to help a potential follower or customer to recognize your page immediately.
As we explain in our article on image sizes for all social networks, your Facebook profile image displays 170 x 170 pixels on computers and 128 x 128 pixels on phones. The image will be cropped in a circle format, so don’t put any critical details in the corners.
Once you’ve chosen an awesome photo, click Add Profile Photo.
Now it’s time to choose your cover photo, the most prominent image on your Facebook business page.
This image should capture the essence of your brand and convey your brand personality. The image will display at 820 x 312 pixels on computers or 640 x 360 pixels on phones. The image must be at least 400 pixels wide and 150 pixels high, but the recommended size for uploading is 720 x 315 pixels.
Once you’ve chosen the appropriate image, click Add Cover Photo.
Ta-da! You already have a company page on Facebook, although many details are still missing.
Sure, even though you already have the skeleton of the Facebook page, you still have a lot of work to do before sharing it with your audience. Don’t worry, your page isn’t visible to your audience yet (we’ll make that happen later in the article). What you see now is just a preview.
Step 3: Create your username
Your username also called a vanity URL, is what you give people to find you on Facebook.
Your username can be up to 50 characters long, but don’t use these extra characters just because you can. It is recommended that it be something easy to write and easy to remember. Your business name or some obvious variation of it is a safe bet.
Click create page username in the left menu to set up your vanity URL.
Click Create Username when you’re done. You’ll see a box showing the links people can use to connect with your business on Facebook and Messenger.
Step 4: Enter your business details
Even if you’re tempted to leave the details for later, it’s important to fill out all the fields in the Edit Page Information section of your Facebook Page from the start.
Since Facebook is often the first place a customer goes for information about you, it’s important to have it all there. For example, if someone is looking for a business that is open until 9 pm, they will want to confirm this information on your page. If they can’t find it, they will probably keep looking until they find another place where it is available.
To start filling in your business details, click Edit Page Information in the top menu. From this screen, you can share all the important information about your business.
Description
This is a short description that appears in search results, and it should be a couple of sentences (max 255 characters), so there’s no need to elaborate. Later we will show you where you can add a longer description.
Categories
Here you will see the category you entered in Step 1. If you prefer, you can add additional categories to ensure that Facebook shows your page to all the right people.
Contact
Add any contact details you want to make public, including your phone number, website, and email.
Location
If you have a physical store or office make sure to check that the location is marked correctly on the map. You can add details about your service area, so people know, for example, which neighborhoods you deliver to.
Schedules
If your business is open to the public during specific hours, you must enter them here. This information appears in the search results.
extra options
If relevant, enter your legal notice, price range, and the link to the privacy policy. The legal notice, as its name implies, is a legal declaration of ownership, and is generally required only in certain European countries.
Click Save Changes below each section to implement your changes on the fly.
Step 5. Tell your story
You’ve already included all the basic details about your business, but you haven’t yet provided much data that tells people why they should engage with your business on Facebook.
Previously, there was a section called Our Story on Facebook Business Pages where you could add a longer description of your business. That section was recently removed, however, you can still provide more details about your business in the Description section in the Information section. It is not a very large space, but you can still give more context and provide interesting data.
Step 6. Create your first post
Before you start inviting people to like your Facebook Business Page, you need to post valuable content. You can create some of your own posts or share relevant content from other thought leaders in your industry. Currently, they will also give you the option to create a publication through the Business Suite.
You can also create a specific type of posts, such as an event or product offer. You just need to click on one of the options in the Create section at the top of your page.
Make sure that whatever you post offers value for your visitors when they land on your Facebook page, so they feel like sticking around.
Step 7: Publish your page and invite an audience
Your Facebook Business Page now represents a strong online presence that will make your potential customers and fans feel comfortable interacting with you. It’s time to click that big green Publish Page button on the left menu.
That is all! Your page is active and visible to the world. Now you need to get some fans!
Start by inviting your existing friends on Facebook to like your page. Use your other channels, like your website and Twitter, to promote it. Add logos that say “follow us” in your promotional materials as well as in your email signature. If you feel comfortable doing so, ask your customers to review you on Facebook.

Assign access levels across your team
One of the most important elements of a Business Manager is giving permission to people in your business and those who may act on behalf of your business. Setting different access levels across your marketing team gives you better control of your assets and information.
Assets that existed prior to your Business Managers accounts – such as Pages, ad accounts, and pixels – will still be connected to your personal account with your initial permission settings. To avoid confusion, shift all business-owned assets to the Business Manager.
Within Business Manager, there are two layers of permissions. Here’s the breakdown.
Layer 1: Roles specific to Business Manager
Business admins
Business admins can control all aspects of the Business Manager, including adding or removing people from the employee list and modifying or deleting the business.
Business employees
Business employees can see all information in the business settings and can be assigned roles by business admins, but can’t make any changes.
Layer 2: Roles across Pages and other assets
Pages
Pages are assets controlled by the business they represent. Pages can only be claimed by one Business Manager, but they can have multiple partner or individual accounts that access, post and buy ads. This also applies to Instagram accounts and apps.
Ad accounts
Ad accounts allow businesses to purchase advertising on connected Pages or apps. Every ad account should have an associated payment method and an authorized person who can purchase ads based on that account. Ad accounts should be owned by the Business Manager of the party managing invoices. However, ad accounts can be shared with any business so that they can run ads or perform analytics on behalf of your business.
Apps
Apps can be claimed and owned within Business Manager and shared with Business Manager partners who can manage the app settings. Business Manager app IDs help admins identify people who download any of their organization’s apps. An app in Business Manager can also be connected to one or more ad accounts.
Pixels
Each Business Manager can create up to five pixels, which can be shared with Business Manager partners. If someone else is managing your ads for you, you can assign their partnership to the pixel by selecting “Assign partner” and entering their business ID.
Audiences
Shared audiences allow other people to access the audiences you’ve created for your ads. You can bulk-share Custom and Lookalike Audiences between ad accounts and/or media agencies if both the sharer and recipient are tied to a Business Manager.
Privacy and security
You will use your personal Facebook information to set up your Business Manager account. Colleagues will not be able to view non-public items on your Facebook profile unless you are separately friends on Facebook.
Using your personal identity ensures transparency and allows you to see who makes each change to account assets. This way, if an unusual action is discovered, you can easily speak to the person who made the change. This level of detail is not possible when single-user accounts are shared amongst multiple people.
In addition, Facebook does not permit sharing of personal accounts and credentials.
Facebook operations actively remove accounts in breach of the Facebook terms and agreements. If you are using a shared or fake identity, this account could be disabled and disrupt your business operations.
For complete Facebook Terms and Policies, visit https:/facebook.com/policies.
Setting up payment methods
Payment methods are required to create ads on Facebook. Follow these steps for assigning payment methods when you first set up your Business Manager.
- Add the payment methods you want to use in Business settings – Payments – Add payment method.
- If you are eligible for a line of credit, check whether your credit line is available in Business Manager. You can do this by contacting your Facebook sales rep or by visiting facebook.com/business/resources and selecting the “Billing and payments” topic.
- Define permission levels in the “Finance roles” section. Choose “Finance editor” for those who will need to access credit lines or invoice details, and choose “Finance analyst” for those who will only need to view the information.
- Go to Business Manager – People and select the person who needs the role.
- Select the edit icon next to the person’s name. In the dialogue box under “Finance role”, make the appropriate selection.
- Update email addresses that need to receive invoices in Payments – Account credit – Invoice emails.
- View Unpaid delivery (balance) of credit line and general health in Settings – Payments.
- Share your credit line with other Business Managers that need to access it, such as agencies.
After you have completed the initial setup for payment methods, you can create ad accounts and assign payment methods and lines of credit to them as needed, on a day-to-day basis.
Hope this was helpful enough.
